You said, we did...

WE ASKED

What issues are causing problems in your community?

YOU SAID

Speeding motorists in rural villages.

WE DID

  • Introduced community speedwatch with volunteers in Coquetdale.

  • Put local officers in our rural villages with speed detection equipment everyday.

  • Identified offending drivers, issued warning letters and prosecuted repeat offenders.

  • Introduced a high profile campaign targeting motorcyclists.

  • Reviewed and replenished all the signs for 2012.

  • Became the first sector to use solar roadside signs at speeding hot spots warning motorists to slow down and respect our local communities.

  • Specifically targeted young drivers with a series of educational inputs to local high schools in December 2011.This will impact on those drivers taking their tests in 2012.

  • April 2012 - Identified main offenders and actively targetted them and their vehicles. One of the main offenders has had his vehicle seized and impounded twice since the beginnig of March 2012. He was arrested in early April 2012 for driving with excess alcohol. He is to appear in court in May.
A residents meeting is planned with the NPT to discuss concerns around anti social driving.
