Neighbourhood priorities
Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.
The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:
1. May 2012: Thefts of bicycles in the Ashington area.
"What you told us"
Residents are reporting increased numbers of bicycle thefts in the Ashington area. Offences are invariably taking place during hours of darkness and are concentrated in the Hirst and North Seaton areas.
"What we are doing about it ?"
• Officers are conducting high visibility patrols in the 'hot spot' areas to deter and identify offenders.
• Officers are undertaking pro-active operations to catching offenders.
• Officers are tasked with stopping and property checking all bikes being ridden in the relevant areas and cross referencing them with records of recorded stolen bikes with a view to recovering stolen bikes and arresting thieves and people handling stolen property.
• Days of action targeting bikes thieves are planned for the forthcoming month.
• Bike marking events are planned to allow local residents to protect their bikes. Invisible marking techniques will be used.
• Community intelligence will be generated and acted on and warrants carried out where appropriate.
"Keeping you informed"
Sector web pages will be updated with the positive action taken against individuals.
Residents will be kept informed at local meetings and via leaflet drops about activity undertaken and by patrolling officers.
2. May 2012: Motorbike Disorder in North Seaton and Hirst areas of Ashington.
"What you told us"
Police have seen an increase in people reporting motorbike disorder in the area of North Seaton and the Hirst areas of Ashington.
"What we are doing about it ?"
• Section 59 seizure notices will be issued to anyone found committing offences (and their bike can be seized and may be crushed).
• Neighbourhood officers will be used to patrol the area in cars and bikes to provide a high visibility presence in the affected areas.
• Individuals suspected to be involved will be targeted.
• Offenders may also be prosecuted for motoring offences.
• Warning letters about motor vehicle related disorder will be sent to people to inform them of the consequences of being caught using their vehicles in this way. They will be told about the enforcement action officers can take, which includes having their vehicle seized and being prosecuted.
• Anti-social Behaviour Agreements will be implemented on people involved in ASB and disorder in conjunction with partner agencies. Tenancy enforcement action will be progressed if they become persistent offenders.
• Reassurance calls will be made to residents who have reported vehicle disorder. This will also help officers to make people aware of their enquiries.
