Crime Statistics Commentary
Burglaries are still an issue in the Ashington area in the last month. There have however been a number of high profile arrests and warrants executed in the area. More information on this and methods to secure your property can be found on the Northumbria Police website.
Unfortunately there are still a number of burglaries to insecure properties. As ever, we remind people to lock doors and windows before going out and we ask anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact police.
We have recently carried out the second in a scheduled series of crime prevention visits within the North Hirst area. Working with the Council we have visited over 250 properties and supplied free crime prevention advice and equipment.
We also carried out a high profile operation in the North Seaton area in which we worked with Bernicia Homes to identify and prevent crime and anti-social behaviour which has enabled us to build an intelligence picture with a view to taking decisive action against repeat offenders. A further operation is to be carried out within the Ashington area in the next few weeks.
Youth anti-social behaviour has increased over the last monthly period. This is largely in the villages and areas outlying Ashington and is not an unusual occurrence during a period that includes school holidays. Operation Street Safe which has been running in partnership with Social Services has been very successful in reducing this type of incident. Operations of this type to target youth anti-social behaviour will continue.
We will continue to make full use of powers to deal with young people in persistent possession of alcohol and causing anti-social behaviour.
Please remember that you can report anything suspicious through the new 101 number or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Our neighbourhood team is also available to provide free crime prevention advice or property marking. They can be contacted via the Northumbria Police website, www.northumbria.police.uk.
