Cannabis farm dismantled in Bedlington

Dated: 26 Apr 2012

A man has been arrested and hundreds of cannabis plants seized following searches in Northumberland.

Bedlington Neighbourhood officers became suspicious when they noticed a strong smell of cannabis outside a flat in Liddles Street.

A warrant was executed and officers discovered more than 200 cannabis plants growing in two rooms.

Officers carried out further searches at an address at Reaveley Avenue and a garage at Grange Park Avenue and recovered hydroponic equipment and several bags of harvested cannabis plants.

A 28-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis.

Chief Inspector Peter Reeve of Northumberland Area Command said: "Neighbourhood officers noticed a pungent smell from one of the houses, which aroused suspicion, and we acted on that information and recovered a significant amount of cannabis plants, harvested cannabis and growing equipment.

"As a result a large quantity of cannabis has been prevented from reaching our communities in Northumberland.

"We always act on information we receive to actively target drug use and supply in our neighbourhoods."
