Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2013: Anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminal damage.

"What you told us"

There has been a  increase in anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in the sector.  The rise is specifically in the Bedlington Station area in and around Clayton Street corner.

"What are we doing about it"

Officers are conducting high visibility patrols in hot spot areas to deter and identify offenders.

Officers have been tasked with pro-actively dealing with anti-social behaviour and taking a robust approach to street drinking through alcohol seizures.

All reports are assessed and dealt with and the caller updated with the outcome and given reassurance.
Youth diversionary activities are being looked at for key times such as Friday and Saturday evenings, to encourage youths to spend their time productively.

Officers are working in partnership with local retailers, including licensed premises to ensure that underage youngsters are identified and prevented from getting access to alcohol.

Landlords for premises which have been identified as being problematic are being invited to the police station and a joint strategy is being implemented to prevent further incidents.

Officers are rigorously enforcing Section 30 legislation around underage drinking and the Designated Public Places Order.

"Keeping you informed"

Updates will be put on sector web pages outlining successes and the positive action taken against individuals.
Residents will be kept informed at local meetings and through leaflet drops about the activity of patrolling officers.

2. May 2013 Off Road Motor Cycles

What you said  :-

With the warmer weather upon us, we have had an increase in complaints relating to off-road style bikes.  We know that these vehicles can cause a great deal of anxiety within the communities.

What we are doing about it:-

We have enacted Operation East Side to combat the rise in motor cycle disorder. Part of this Operation is to identify owners of these vehicles and visit them.   We will provide them literature which identifies the offences and consequences of using their motor cycles unlawfully.

Since its inception the Operation has already resulted in two motor cycles being seized and one male being dealt with as a Disqualified Driver.

We are putting advisory notices in all the key areas in the Sector, these notices together with new leaflets to report Off Road Motor Cycles are LMAPS funded.  We will be sending out the reporting leaflets to areas where disorder is reported.  We would encourage members of the public to report the users of these Off road vehicles to allow us to take positive action against the owners/riders.
