Appeal for witnesses following Wooler collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision in Wooler, Northumberland.

At 4:44pm on Tuesday, August 7, a Suzuki Jimny 4x4 and a Ford Fiesta were involved in a collision on the A697 near to the junction with Tower Martin.

The driver of the Jimny, an 87-year-old local man, suffered a serious spinal injury and was taken to the RVI for treatment. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 20-year-old local woman, suffered whiplash.

A section of the A697 was closed in both directions for three hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
