Neighbourhood priorities
Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.
The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:
1. May 2012: Speeding motorists.
"What you told us"
At a recent Partners and Community Together (PACT) meeting in April, several residents and local councillors expressed concerns about speeding motorists using Village Road, Cramlington and Avenue Road, Seaton Delaval.
"What we are doing about it"
Local residents remain concerned about vehicles speeding in the area and this will continue to be a neighbourhood priority.
Local officers will increase patrols in the area and make use of a newly acquired speed detection gun to prosecute offenders.
Ten speed awareness safety letters have been sent advising motorists that their vehicle has been seen travelling above the speed limit. Road Respect information will be provided to the drivers.
Two endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued.
"Keeping you informed"
The speed detection gun has been used 53 times at identified sites across the area. Seven endorsable Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued and 165 speed awareness safety letters sent. This advises motorists that their vehicle has been seen travelling above the speed limit. Two vehicles have been uplifted under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. A further vehicle has been uplifted under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
2. May 2012: Anti-social behaviour caused by off-road motorbikes.
"What you told us"
Local residents have expressed concerns about anti-social behaviour caused by off-road motorbikes in the East Cramlington and Beaconhill areas.
"What we are doing about it"
Local officers are increasing patrols in the area at key times.
Anyone found riding a motorbike off road or in an anti-social or dangerous manner will be prosecuted and their motorbike will be seized. This could also lead to it being crushed.
Homes for Northumberland will be sending out information leaflets to their tenants requesting their assistance in tackling this problem.
"Keeping you informed"
This is a new priority for May and we will keep you updated.
Two motorbikes have already been seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
A local 18-year-old man was recently convicted at court for driving offences relating to his use of an off-road motorbike. He is awaiting sentence.
Two Section 59 warnings have been issued to riders using off-road bikes in the area.
Incidents reported to the police have decreased.
