Crime Statistics Commentary

Current performance indicates that the Cramlington sector will end the year 10% down for overall crime with a detection rate of around 40%, both of which exceed the targets set for 2011/12.

Youth anti-social behaviour is also down by 10% and non-youth anti-social behaviour down by 25% for 2011/12.

The current sector priorities are criminal damage, burglary dwelling, anti-social behaviour and retail theft.

Operation Rushford has been set up to tackle criminal damage to motor vehicles which appears to be happening overnight close to Cramlington town centre. Officers will be carrying out targeted patrols in these areas at the times when the offences are being reported.

There has been a slight increase in burglary dwelling during this period with three offences, one more than in the last period.  There has been an arrest in relation to one of the offences for which a charging decision is awaited.  Officers are awaiting forensic results for another offence which is expected to link into a person already arrested and remanded in custody.  Officers continue to target and gather intelligence on known burglars and their associates.

Shoplifting has again been a sector priority for the past four weeks with priority tasking for early day resources to attend the Manor Walks Shopping Centre.  There have been seven offences in the last 28 days which is level for that period.  Offences of this type are down 38%.

March has seen a slight increase in youth disorder from 40 incidents to 43 but there has also been a decrease in non-youth disorder by two incidents

The main issue that transcends both categories is off-road motor cycles.  Local officers have requested residents to report activity in this area.  The Neighbourhood Policing Team are gathering evidence and reviewing all anti-social incidents involving motorcycles with a view to taking action against owners and users in the forthcoming weeks.

Local Neighbourhood Policing Teams can be contacted via the Northumbria Police website, www.northumbria.police.uk.
