Police in Northumberland are stepping up their regular patrols at night around pubs in the county following several burglaries at licensed premises.

Thieves have stolen cash from slot machines.

Superintendent Mick Paterson of Northumberland Area Command said: "Officers are linking in with and working very closely with licensees around checking their premises last thing at night and improving their security.

"If anyone sees any suspicious behaviour in and around any pub in Northumberland or in the pub car parks, especially around closing  time, they should report it immediately to police."
