Crime Statistics Commentary

East Tynedale has seen a number of burglaries targeting insecure or unoccupied premises, both houses and garages, in the past month.

Previous crimes in Ponteland have been addressed with increased patrols and crime prevention advice to all residents.

However, high value pedal cycles have again been stolen from Wylam and Heddon.

Last month we gave a reminder to home owners around locking doors and cars at all times, but crimes are still being reported because of insecure premises.

The message is simple - always make sure premises are locked and secure.

An isolated stabbing took place in the Ship Pub in Wylam. This was a targeted incident against known individuals and the offender has been arrested and charged.

There has been one street robbery in Prudhoe when a young person wrestled a handbag from an elderly woman. Again this was an isolated crime and unusual for East Tynedale. The woman was not hurt.

As Spring and Summer begin we have a few quick reminders to local residents:

  • Lock and secure windows and doors. Don’t leave keys in locks.

  • Never leave valuables or car keys in sight or lying on worktops.

  • Fit and activate a house alarm, PIR (Passive Infrared) lights and a shed alarm.

  • Mark your property and keep a record of serial numbers.

  • Join a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and report all suspicious activity.
