Crime Statistics Commentary

There were 62 reported crimes in West Tynedale during March, compared with 74 in February.

This decrease included a fall in the number of criminal damage offences, down from 15 to nine, and other thefts, which have more than halved from 15 down to six.

However, there has been a rise in the number of burglaries, up from eight to 12, and shoplifting, up from five to 12.

Two houses were burgled during the month and there was an attempted to burglary at a third home. The majority of the remaining burglaries were to sheds and garages, where power tools were mainly stolen.

Of the 12 shoplifting crimes, nine happened at premises in Fore Street, Hexham. Police patrols have been increased in the area to address the problem.

Reports of anti-social behaviour also fell during March, down to 75 from 82 during February.
