Sudden death in South Shields

At 12.35am today, Saturday, April 21, police received a report from the ambulance service that they had taken a woman from an address at Richardson Avenue in South Shields to South Tyneside Hospital.

The 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Police are treating the incident as a sudden death and enquiries into the exact cause of death are being carried out.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and is currently in custody. The investigation is in the very early stages and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
