Pedestrian injured in crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was hit by a car in South Tyneside.
At 3.52am today, Monday, June 25, police received a report that a pedestrian crossing Westoe Road in South Shields had been hit by a car - believed to be a silver estate car.
The man, aged 22, was taken to the RVI hospital for treatment to a head injury where he is in a serious but stable condition.
A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this crash, and anyone with information about the identity of the driver, to get in touch as soon as possible on 101 ext 69191, for the attention of PC 8028 Chris Davidson, Roads Policing Unit.
