Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Speeding around Nevison Avenue.

“What you told us”
 
At Partner and Communties Together (PACT) and Neighbourhood Watch meetings in April, you told the local policing team what the priorities for your area are.  In addition, members of the public who attended the local area forums have raised issues, which working in partnership with all agencies within South Tyneside is being responded to.

“What we are doing about it”

In Nevison Avenue officers from the Roads Policing Unit have been carrying out extra patrols and speed checks to advise motorists the priority of road safety.  The key times are when schools are starting and finishing.  Officers from the local policing team have been carrying out extra patrols in the area to provide a visible presence and reinforce speed restrictions.

“Keeping you informed”

As a result of extra attention by the Roads Policing Unit, two motorists have been reported for excess speed.  In addition the extra patrols by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have reassured the local community that the issues are being addressed.  A questionnaire aimed at those affected in the area will be completed during May by the local policing team to gauge opinion on actions to date.


2. May 2012: Disorder in underpass on John Reid road, Biddick Hall estate.

At Partners and Communities Together (PACT) and Neighbourhood Watch meetings in April, you told the local policing team what the priorities for your area are.  In addition members of the public who attended the local area forums have raised issues, which working in partnership with all agencies within South Tyneside is being responded to.

"What we are doing about it"

The disorder in the John Reid Road underpass has been discussed at the Safer Neighbourhood Team meeting with all the partners and has been raised as a community concern, with extra patrols and clean up provisions implemented.  The key times are in particular Friday evenings and weekends.  The tasking of resources on Operation Safestop to the area is now a regular occurrence.

"Keeping you informed"

Over the last two weekends, officers have regularly visited the underpass at key times.  In addition, working in partnership with trading standards, off licences in the vicinity have been checked.  This was to enforce compliance with sales of alcohol to underage persons and to take action against adults who are buying alcohol and then passing it on to underage persons.  Community safety have done regular visits and recovered up to 12 bottles of alcohol from the site. Information is shared with police and youth services to target patrols.


3. May 2012: Disorder in and around town centre parks and the amusements in particular late evenings and weekends.

At Partners and Communities Together (PACT) and Neighbourhood Watch meetings in April, you told the local policing team what the priorities for your area are.  In addition members of the public who attended the local area forums have raised issues, which working in partnership with all agencies within South Tyneside is being responded to.

"What we are doing about it"

Disorder in and around the town centre parks is subject to extra patrols by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, in consultation with CCTV and Community Safety.  The key times are in particular Friday evenings and weekends.  The tasking of resources on Operation Safestop to the area is now a regular occurrence.

"Keeping you informed"

Over the last two weekends, officers working on Operation Safestop have made regular visits to the parks, resulting in 12 young people being taken into temporary police protection and their parents being required to attend, to discuss there vulnerability and actions.  In addition, working with the local authority wardens and using CCTV, targeted patrols will continue in the affected areas.  Youth services are looking at what diversionary opportunities are available.
