Neighbourhood priorities
Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.
The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:
1. May 2013: Drunkenness and rowdy behaviour in public places.
“What you told us”

There is an ongoing issue of drunken and rowdy behavior in Mowbray Park and Norfolk Street. This has been raised by residents and business within the city centre.
“What are we doing about it?”
Operation Exterior has been put in place to target anti-social behaviour in these areas. This will include:

Targeted uniform patrols, engagement and enforcement against those selling alcohol to young people.

Working closely with licensed premises to promote responsible drinking and deal with problem premises.

Targeting areas in the city where youths have been gathering causing anti-social behaviour.

Working closely with anti-social behavior officers from both the local authority and housing providers to target the worst offenders.

Youth workers to actively engage with young people at weekends to divert them from problem behaviour.

2. May 2013: Burglaries
“What you told us”

There has been concerns in the community about house burglaries.
“What are we doing about it?”

Officers will carry out high visibility patrols within the affected areas to prevent and deter offenders.

Neighbourhood officers will also patrol in plain clothes and positively target people suspected to be responsible for these crimes.

Operation Chandra has been put in place to target offenders and people selling on stolen property from the burglaries.

Neighbourhood officers will be giving out crime prevention advice on how to prevent becoming a victim and how to protect your property.

3. May 2013: Increase in thefts from vehicles.
“What you told us”

There have been concerns raised by the community has been an increase in thefts from vehicles.
“What are we doing about it?”

Officers will carry out high visibility patrols to prevent and deter thieves and plain clothes operations to identify and target any suspects.

Neighbourhood officers will activity target known car criminals as part of Operation Carpets.

Neighbourhood officers will be giving out crime prevention advice to the community to try and remind drivers not to leave any valuables on show in their vehicles.

Signs have been erected in problem areas as part of the “If it’s on show it could go” campaign.
