Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Shoplifting

“What you told us”

There has been an increase in shoplifting in local shops in Hendon, Ryhope and Grangetown.

“What are we doing about it”

Officers have been tackling this issue and this has resulted in a decrease in thefts within retail premises by 20% within the sector over the past month. This is due to increased policing, liaison with staff and security within retail premises and improved signs informing people about  CCTV and police activity. These preventative measures will continue in order to maintain a reduction in these offences.

“Keeping you informed”

The neighbourhood policing team will keep the local community updated with what is doing to tackle shoplifting at Partner and Community Together (PACT) meetings, on the website and through community messaging.

2. May 2012: House and shed burglary

“What you told us”

Local people are concerned about an increase in burglaries happening in our community

“What are we doing about it”

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team are increasing patrols in areas which have been affected by these types of crime. People are reminded to make sure they keep doors securely locked, especially overnight to help prevent opportunist offences. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour to police straightaway.

“Keeping you informed”

3. May 2012: Youth related anti-social behaviour

“What you told us”

Residents are concerned about young people hanging around the streets.

“What are we doing about it”
