Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012: Burglaries to garage and sheds in Fulwell and Seaburn.

 “What you told us”

At a Police Community forum meeting in Fulwell residence expressed their concerns about burglaries to garages and sheds. These offences are occurring mainly overnight

There has been a rise burglary to Garages and sheds on the residential estates surrounding Newcastle Road and Thompson Road.

“What are we doing about it”

Police officers will be working overnight in plain clothes. Community Support Officers will be visiting residents in the area promoting the registration of property on the Immobilise website and offering crime prevention  advice.

Operation Diligence and Operation Decoder have been implemented.  Diligence involves the targeting of known offenders and proactive overnight patrols in the hotspot areas. Decoder is the campaign to drive the registration of property on the Immobilise website

Plain clothes officers from your Neighbourhood Policing Team will be working shifts to support 24/7 response officers to tackle the problem.

The combination of both proactive and preventative operations has been successful in the past in helping to reduce this type of crime.

"Keeping you informed"

Significant arrests have already been made which resulted in one offender being charged. He is now on a curfew to prevent overnight offending.

Community Support Officers will be engaging with the Community to let them know what is happening. Further updates will be provided at the local PACT meeting and on the website.

2. May 2012: Thefts from Motor Vehicles Fulwell and Roker

“What you told us”

Door to door enquiries in the Fullwell and Roker  areas residence expressed their concerns about the amount of car crime in the evening and overnight.

There has been a rise in Car crime around Seaburn Metro station and the estates around Newcastle road running down to the Wheatsheaf.

“What are we doing about it”

Uniform officers will be increasing patrols in this area and stopping anyone acting suspiciously.Officers working in Plain clothes for Operation Diligence - a burglary operation - are also mindful that the same offenders may be committing both types of crime.

Community Support Officers are patrolling the area and where they see vehicles with goods left on display they are contacting the owner or leaving a crime prevention leaflet.

The public are also being encouraged to register their sat navs and mobile phones on the Immobilise website. This significantly improves the chances of having property returned to its rightful owner and also helps the police to catch those responsible.

“Keeping you informed”

Significant arrests have already been made for going equipped to steal motor vehicles and also for theft of a motorbike. Two suspects are on bail and another will be charged shortly.

Community Support Officers will be engaging with the community to let them know what is happening. Further updates will be provided at the local PACT meeting and on the website.
