Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2013: Anti-social behaviour in Town End Farm

"What you told us"

  • A number of residents have expressed their concerns about anti-social behaviour in the Town End Farm area.

  • This is reflected in complaints from residents and at Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings and also the number of calls received by the police.  This has been identified as a priority from May 1, 2013.

"What we are doing about it"

  • Operation Educator will be operating mainly in Town End Farm and parts of Downhill during May 2013.  Compared to April last year there were 29 fewer reports of youth ASB this April. However we will not be complacent. We are looking at ASB more closely to identify vulnerable victims so that we can put in place early prevention measures and tackle the offenders.

  • Police officers and Police Community Support officers will be out on foot in the area taking positive action against anyone acting in an anti social manner.  Blackwood Road and the area around Bradford Avenue will be given particular attention on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • The police will be working with partners to look at a long term solution to the problem.

"Keeping you informed"

Police Community Support Officers will be engaging with the Community to let them know what is happening. Further updates will be provided at the local PACT meeting and on the website.

2. May 2013: Shed and garage burglaries

"What you told us"

  • A number of residents have expressed their concerns about burglaries to sheds and garages.  This has also been raised at local Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings.  As the weather improves this becomes more of a problem.

  • This has been identified as a priority from the May 1, 2013

"What we are we doing about it"

  • The last financial year saw your local police teams achieve excellent results in terms of burglary reduction. Burglary fell by over 21% with nearly 100 fewer victims.

  • Your local police teams will not be complacent. We are aware that as the weather improves, shed and garage burglaries increase with items such as lawnmowers being stolen. April also saw a rise in commercial burglaries where roller shutter doors were being forced. This was mainly in the Fulwell and Roker areas.

  • Your police teams will be concentrating on prevention by raising awareness and promoting the immobilise website where property can be registered for free.

  • We will also be targeting those criminals who we know will be looking to commit this type of crime. We would ask our local communities to play their part by contacting the police if they see anyone acting suspiciously and making sure sheds and garage are locked and alarmed.

"Keeping you informed"

Police Community Support Officers will be engaging with the community to let them know what is happening. Further updates will be provided at the local PACT meeting and on the website.

3. May 2013: Bilkings from garages and theft of diesel

"What you told us"

  • The local business communities have raised concerns about theft of fuel from vehicles on business premises. Local garages have also raised concerns about the number of bilkings (driving off without paying for fuel)

  • There has been a rise in fuel thefts during April across the North of th city.

  • This has been identified as a priority from the May 1, 2013

"What are we doing about it"

  • Operation Dispatch commenced May 1, 2013.   Uniformed officers will be increasing patrols around garage forecourts and business premises. Dedicated officers will be looking at linked crimes and also thefts of number plates as these are often used on vehicles committing vehicle thefts.

  • Motor patrol officers are supporting Sunderland Area Command in reducing the number of offences

  • We need our local communities support. If you see anyone acting suspiciously on a garage forecourt inform the police and write down any registration numbers. If you are offered cheap fuel for sale report it to the police

"Keeping you informed"

Police Community Support Officers will be engaging with the community to let them know what's happening.  Further updates will be provided at the local PACT meeting and on the website.
