Neighbourhood priorities

Northumbria Police aims to meet our commitment to you.

The following Neighbourhood priorities relate to your area:

1. May 2012 – Anti-social behaviour in Eden Vale and Barnes Park

"What you told us"

You told us you are concerned about young people hanging around on the streets causing anti-social behaviour in Eden Vale and in Barnes Park.

"What we are doing about it"

We are working with the public and partners to address these issues.

Action has included:

- Operation Freedom continues to run in Eden Vale providing additional police patrols in locations and at times when the issues were occurring. Positive action has been taken against those repeat offenders causing anti-social behaviour.

Funding has been approved to re-landscape the entrance to the mineral line on Eden House Road. It is intended that the ground works will make it less attractive for youths to gather at this location.

Barnes Park has emerged as a concern for local residents with large groups of young people gathering and drinking alcohol. Operation Berry has been instigated in conjunction with the East Neighbourhood Policing Team. This will provide additional resources in the area on a Friday and Saturday night. We are working closely with our partners, youth providers and local businesses to ensure that our activity is effective.

"Keeping you informed"

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to keep the community updated through local Partners and Community Together (PACT) meetings.

We have carried out joint patrols with partners and also with local councillors as part of the “walk and talk initiative” allowing local residents to discuss issues causing them concerns.

More information about when initiatives are held can be found in the events section of the website.

2. May 2012 – Car fires in the west neighbourhood area.

"What you told us"

We’ve received a rise in the number of reports of cars being set on fire in the west neighbourhood area.

"What we are doing about it"

This particular crime type continues to be a concern. Operation Career has been created to focus police patrols in the areas and at times when the crimes are occurring. We are targeting suspects and working with the community to identify those responsible. We would urge the public to contact the police with any information about these crimes.

"Keeping you informed"

This is a new neighbourhood priority and the team will continue to tackle the issue.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to keep the community updated through local Partners and Community Together (PACT) meetings. More information about when they are held can be found in the events section of the website.

3. May 2012 – Anti-social behaviour in Grindon.

"What you told us"

You have told us that you are concerned about young people drinking alcohol and causing disorder in Grindon.

"What we are doing about it"

Operation Cathode was created to provide additional patrols in the area and at times when the problems were occurring.

We are working with local schools and youth providers to highlight to young people the dangers of alcohol and the effect anti-social behaviour has on their community.

Positive action will be taken against drunkenness and the parents of those individuals persistently causing problems will receive visits at home by Police and Council officials. We have been working closely with off licences to promote responsible selling of alcohol.

"Keeping you informed"

This activity will bring about resolution to the disorder problems in Grindon. The Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to keep the community updated through local Partners and Community Together (PACT) meetings. More information about when they are held can be found in the events section of the website.
