Deputy Chief Constable
Steve Ashman is Deputy Chief Constable and is currently responsible for the Force Resilience Unit, Legal Services, Professional Standards, Corporate Development, Strategic Corporate Communications.
Mr Ashman joined Northumbria in 2009 as Assistant Chief Constable. He started his career with the Metropolitan Police in 1987 and served in a variety of roles including the crime squad and as a beat officer on the Broadwater Farm estate in north London.
He successfully applied for the Accelerated Promotion Scheme and was promoted Sergeant in 1993 and transferred to Kings Cross. Upon promotion to Inspector he worked in a number of areas across North London. In 2000 he was promoted to Chief Inspector.
Transferring to Cleveland Police in 2002 as a Superintendent, in 2005 he became the district commander for Hartlepool before being promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2007.
Steve was born in Jarrow and now lives on Tyneside with his wife and two sons.
