Here at Northumbria Police, we recognise as a police service, we play a major role in promoting equality and tackling discrimination – taking our responsibility for doing so extremely seriously. That is why we are passionate that diversity, equality and inclusion (DE&I) is at the heart of everything we do.
We take a collaborate approach to achieving this through our committed staff, officers and volunteers, our strong partnership working and working together with our local communities.
We are proud of our achievements and the progress we have made. However, we continue to evolve and adapt to future challenges. With challenge brings opportunity and our strategic commitments are designed to ensure DE&I is very much part of ‘who we are’ and ‘what we do’.
Through measured and focussed activity, we will work towards eliminating discrimination, and promoting equality of opportunity irrespective of protected characteristics including; age, disability, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and gender reassignment, gender identity or expression.
Our Annual Monitoring Report reflects what we have achieved as well as seeking to set the direction of where we want to go. It is a statement of a long-term commitment to working with others and championing equality for all.
