FOI T119/23 - Hate Crimes

Your amended request asked:

We seek the following information on racist hate crimes and/or hate incidents towards the following ethnic groups:

• Asian – which includes Chinese, Japanese and South East Asian
• Oriental

And would like data for the following years, broken down by each month:

• 2017
• 2018
• 2021
• 2022
• 2023 (for this year, up until the FOI response date or whatever are the most recent statistics).

Provide the number of racist hate crimes and/or hate incidents reported where the victim(s) comprise of the Relevant Groups, broken down by each group where possible.

Please provide the data for my request in an Excel spreadsheet format with suggested row headings by year and month, with column headings:

• Month
• Year
• Number of hate crimes
• Number of hate incidents
• Ethnicity/ethnic appearance

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  We can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police, and the following caveats should be noted:

• Please note that we hold no information prior to 2018.
• In regard to incidents, again we hold no information as we do not record the ethnicity of the person reporting the incident.
