Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Force Coordination and Operations and Corporate Development Departments of Northumbria Police. We can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
We are able to disclose the located information to you as follows with the below caveat noted:
- For Questions 1-4, the data relates to disposals for the following offences:
- Breeding or breeding from a fighting dog
- Selling, exchanging, offering, advertising or exposing for sale a fighting dog
- Giving or offering to give a fighting dog
- Allowing a fighting dog to be in a public place without a muzzle or a lead
- Abandoning, or allowing to stray, a fighting dog
-Possession, without exemption of a Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa or other designated fighting dog

Please provide yearly figures for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 along with monthly figures for 2024 to 31st August for each of the following questions:
1. The number of dogs seized under s.1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
2. The number of dogs destroyed after seizure under s.1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
3. The number of dogs seized under s.3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
4. The number of dogs destroyed after seizure under s.3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act.
5. The number of people charged each year under the offence of Possession of a Dangerous Dog, Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, s.1.
