Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police. We can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

We are able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

You asked:

"1. I would like to know the cost of policing for Northunbria and any other forces involved for the recent Tyne Wear derby football match on 6th January 2024.

2. I would also like to know whether the taxpayer footed the bill for this cost, and if not who paid Northunbria police for this cost."

We do not hold the total cost of policing individual football matches or for separate aspects of policing operations on the day. Work by officers and staff will have been undertaken as part of their duties and these normal hour costs are not recorded for the purpose of Football matches or separate aspects of policing operations. I can advise that Clubs are invoiced in accordance with the National Police Chief’s Council’s “National Policing Guidelines on Charging for Police Services” National Policing Guidelines on Charging for Police Services (npcc.police.uk)

The amount that will be invoiced to the club for the match is £120,586.66 Net.
