Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your email received on the 11 November 2025 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request, and we provide a response for your attention.
You asked:
Please provide information to the following under the Freedom of Information Act:
1. Has your force ever captured cyclists breaking the speed limit by speed cameras operated by your force? If so, please break down the number of times cyclists triggered speed cameras operated by your force because they were cycling above the speed limit. Please break it down for the current calendar year to date (2025) and last year (2024) and the year before that (2023).
2. For each case, please specify what the speed limit was that was broken by the cyclist - was it a 20mph limit, 30mph, 40mph, 50mph etc.?
3. Were any cyclists arrested or reprimanded for breaking speed limits and if so please specify.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development and Criminal Justice and Custody Departments of Northumbria Police. We can confirm that the information you have requested at points 1-3 is not held by Northumbria Police.
Speed limits set under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 only apply to motor vehicles.
