The alleged conduct (in summary):
Allegation 1:
On the 3rd June 2025, whilst off duty and at Durham Road, Gateshead, the officer assaulted Witness A by beating him contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
On the 12th March 2026 the officer appeared before the Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the offence described above.
Allegation 2:
On the 3rd June 2025, whilst off duty and at Durham Road, Gateshead the officer assaulted Witness A. During that altercation Witness B was present.
Witness B made repeated attempts to try to prevent the officer from approaching Witness A.
The officer grabbed Witness B’s upper arm and pushed Witness B to the side.
The officer pushed Witness B on two further occasions during the altercation involving Witness A, pushing Witness B to the upper arm and the side of Witness B’s upper body.
It is alleged that the officer’s conduct breaches the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to Discreditable Conduct and Authority, Respect and Courtesy and amounts to Gross Misconduct.
Reporting Restriction Imposed:
The Chair of the Accelerated Misconduct Hearing, Chief Constable 7288 Vanessa Jardine has made the following order pursuant to Regulation 59(2)(c) of the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020:
The publication of any information that could lead to the identification of members of the public that are referred to in the misconduct allegations and associated case papers is prohibited.
‘Publication’ includes any speech, writing, broadcast, or other communication in whatever form (including internet and social media) which is addressed to the public at large or any section of the public.
Members of the press and public must abide by the order made by the Chair of the Misconduct Proceedings.
If you wish to apply to attend the hearing, you must book no later than 12 noon today. This is to allow for sufficient time to process the application. Any requests received after this time will be unable to be processed in time for the hearing and therefore will be rejected.
The identity of victims/witnesses may be protected during the hearing as appropriate.
