Blue lights, camera, action! Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols team are featuring in a TV series.

For the last five months, camera crews have been following our own officers for the latest series of Channel 5’s ‘Motorway Cops: Catching Britain’s Speeders’.

The first episode will air at 8pm on Monday, April 1, and will also be available to stream using My5.

Sergeant Dave Roberts is one of our dedicated Motor Patrols officers to feature on the show, and he has racked up more than 30 years of service with Northumbria Police

Sgt Roberts said: "We have been really excited to take part in the show.

"The programme has given us the ideal opportunity to show the vast range of incidents we respond to, from catching speeding drivers and attending serious collisions to arresting wanted people and joining colleagues on other operations.

"I hope our passion for the job and our personalities shine through, and gives our communities a real insight into the work we do on a daily basis to keep them safe."

Filming exclusively with Northumbria Police for 20 episodes, the programmes follow a team of our dedicated officers while they respond to a range of incidents across the Force area.

Some of the stories in episode one include Sgt Roberts on a large-scale manhunt for a serious criminal and PC Jan Simlesa stopping a driver travelling at 120mph in a 50mph zone.

Motorway Cops: Catching Britain’s Speeders is on every Monday on Channel 5 at 8pm.
