A further fifty-eight new officers have completed their initial training with Northumbria Police.
Surrounded by loved-ones, the officers attended a special celebration earlier this month after completing their initial 16 weeks of training.
Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine was in attendance to talk with the officers and presented awards for stand-out efforts during their first few weeks with the Force.
She said: “It is always a real privilege to see officers reach such an important milestone in their policing journey.
“To celebrate this moment with loved-ones is also very special – and the pride on the faces of both the officers and those who had come to support them was evident for all to see.
“These officers have all made a commitment to uphold the highest of standards and each and every one of them has the opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to people’s lives.
“I wish them all long and successful careers.”
These recruits are from the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), the Graduate Detective Programme (GDP) and the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP).
These are academic and professional courses jointly delivered by officers from Northumbria Police and staff from Northumbria University.
The officers will now continue their learning on deployment with more experienced colleagues.
You don’t just have to be an officer to make a difference – and there are currently some fantastic opportunities to join Northumbria Police.
Chief Constable Jardine added: “I would encourage anyone who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of others to consider a career in policing.
“You will be joining officers, staff and volunteers who support each other and continually go the extra mile to deliver the very best service possible.
“There are so many varied roles and opportunities – a challenging and rewarding career awaits.”
These latest officers replace retiring officers and form part of Northumbria Police’s commitment to increase numbers.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness said: “This is another welcome boost to officer numbers and means we can get more officers out on the streets or working behind the scenes to fight and prevent crime here in the North East.
“A lot of hard work is involved in training as an officer and I wish all our latest recruits the best of luck as they continue learning new skills and building up that valuable on the job experience.
“Policing is both a rewarding and challenging career and I am thankful to everyone who takes it on.”
