Arrests made and vehicles seized in crackdown

Police have made a number of arrests and seized two vehicles in a bid to crackdown on dangerous riders.

Last Wednesday, police received reports of disturbance at two separate addresses in the Meadow Well area of North Shields.

In both cases, two males were understood to have attended an address, stolen a vehicle, then made off on foot after police attended the scene.

Within around 20 minutes of receiving the calls, neighbourhood officers had arrested and detained four offenders and later retrieved the two stolen vehicles – one motorcycle and a moped.

This latest activity follows the launch of a new force-wide campaign called Operation Capio, which will see a huge push on putting a stop to nuisance riders.

Praising the efforts of the Force’s Neighbourhood Policing teams, Inspector Jennifer Bushby of Northumbria Police said: “This type of crime is taken seriously by police, and we are working hard to identify and prosecute offenders.

“Operation Capio demonstrates our commitment as a Force to tackling this issue, and seizing the vehicles involved in disorder. People in the community want to see action like this being taken.

“This is a great result for the teams involved and an excellent example of police working together to achieve a quick resolution.”

Officers have urged people to further assist their enquiries by continuing to share details such as:

1. Vehicle registration plate number for offending vehicles;
2. Time of day and date of incident;
3. Where the motorcycle was located, and where it was travelling;
4. Description of riders including how many, clothing worn and helmet or headgear;
5. Description of the motorcycle(s) involved – including colour, make, model if known – and any other distinctive features.
