Abnormal loads should not be moved during peak traffic times in urban and congested areas:
There are no restrictions on abnormal load movement at night.
A dispensation is a permission for an abnormal load to travel without having to notify us each time.
Northumbria Police does not offer such dispensation.
Agricultural vehicles only: you may apply for dispensation from notification by using our contact form.
Abnormal loads in excess of 6.1 metres wide, 30 metres rigid length and/or 150,000 kgs, subject to National Highways Special Orders must be escorted by police.
Loads of lesser dimensions will not routinely be escorted.
A police escort is also required where it is necessary to ensure public safety, where traffic regulations need to be contravened and where there may be a need to stop and control other traffic.
If you need a police escort you must give us 14 clear days’ notice. We will charge for this service.
Request a police escort using our contact form.
