Action taken:
The local neighbourhood team are working with partner agencies including Gateshead Council to safeguard vulnerable tenants. We target and disrupt offenders and support victims, who often experience 'cuckooing'. Where suspects commit crime and disorder from their addresses we will seek to impose closure orders.

Reducing Crime and Anti-social Behaviour in Gateshead Town Centre
Action taken:
Addressing street drinking and associated anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Gateshead Town Centre continues to be supported through a strong multi-agency partnership approach. Working closely with Gateshead Council, Police and Town partners maintain a coordinated presence within the town centre. The dedicated Town Centre Policing Team remains in place to provide reassurance, greater visibility, engagement and targeted enforcement where necessary. Activity is guided by an established Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) plan, which focuses on those involved in public order offences, retail theft and ASB to deliver sustainable improvements. Monthly partnership meetings ensure ongoing engagement with local stakeholders, enabling partners to monitor progress, respond to emerging issues and maintain a shared focus on community priorities.

Action taken:
We are maintaining a proactive and intelligence-led approach focused on disrupting behaviour linked to substance misuse and reducing the harm caused to local communities. Enforcement activity, including the use of civil powers and tenancy-related interventions where appropriate, is complemented by close partnership working with drug and alcohol treatment providers. Together, we are promoting access to support services, delivering early intervention opportunities, and encouraging engagement with recovery programmes.
This balanced approach seeks not only to address offending behaviour but also to tackle the underlying causes of substance misuse, helping to reduce repeat incidents, improve community safety, and support positive outcomes for those at risk.

Action taken:
Regular intelligence briefings, partnership information sharing, and joint tasking arrangements ensure that emerging threats are identified and addressed at the earliest opportunity. This proactive approach is focused on preventing the exploitation of vulnerable individuals who may be at risk of involvement in substance misuse, drug-related activity, or associated anti-social behaviour.
Through early intervention, targeted safeguarding, and coordinated partnership working, we aim to reduce the harm caused by drugs and alcohol, protect those most vulnerable to exploitation, and maintain safe and resilient communities. Activity is continually reviewed to ensure our response remains effective, proportionate, and responsive to emerging risks.
