Your local policing team is made up of dedicated neighbourhood officers and community support officers.
We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
Shop theft
Issued 28 January 2026
We’ve improved shop-theft protocols, increased resources, and targeted prolific offenders resulting in Community Behaviour Orders and over 10 years of custodial sentences since October 2024. Retail crime has fallen across Jarrow and Hebburn, with a focused plan at Morrisons (Viking Centre) achieving a 70% reduction in one month. Strong partnership work and targeting repeat offenders are also helping to disrupt wider criminality.
