Anti-social Behaviour
Issued 15 October 2026
The days leading up to Bonfire night consistently show a notable increase in ASB incidents, including fireworks and bonfires.
Op Vulcan addresses all issues related to Bonfire Night and associated events. It includes, but is not limited to, dedicated patrols in key areas on Bonfire Night.
We saw good reduction in 2025 from 2024 and are working to improve again in 2026.
A multi-agency group will be convened to conduct educational inputs, leaflet drops, and bonfire build up removal.

Shoplifting across Sunderland North
Issued 15 October 2026
Shop Theft remains a high priority. We continue to work with retailers to protect the public, staff and the stores from shop theft.
We monitor data to identify high harm offenders and target the most prolific. We seek Criminal Behaviour Orders (live for 3 years) through the courts to place conditions on the offenders preventing their offending behaviour and reducing the impact on the retail community.
Sunderland area command now has a dedicated team to streamline the evidential process when dealing with shop thefts bringing the offenders to court more efficiently and effectively through operations such as Operation Canvas.
We identify the stores targeted most often and visit to see what support and crime prevention advice we can provide thus supporting the business and the staff.

Anti-Social Behaviour in and around Roker Retail Park
Issued 15 October 2026
As part of the 2026 Autumn Plans ASB at Roker Retail Park has returned as a priority.
The hotspot areas are identified by reports received from our community and local leaders. We continue to request these reports so we can fully understand, support and respond to the issues and make Roker a great place to live and work.
NPT have several tools at their disposal to tackle these issues which greatly impact our community from enforcement through to deterrence and education. We work closely with partners to maximise resources and the ability to reduce issues. The Sunderland North Community Safety Team supported by local NPT teams are key to delivering this success.
We have seen good reductions in ASB through the summer months but as the dark nights come in, we are planning to reduce historic ASB in the locality with increased patrols around key dates and times.
